Commenting on an independent review looking at the effectiveness of the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Director of Practice and Innovation at the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, Karin Orman, said:
‘This review of the Single Assessment Framework raises several concerns for those working in social care and accessing social care services. It found that the CQC has lost expertise in its recent restructure; has not defined clearly what "good" or "outstanding" care looks like; is not assessing the efficient and effective delivery of care; or sharing best practice and pushing for innovation. This puts the public at risk and does not support health and social care providers to understand and work towards best practice and delivery. CQC ratings can have a huge effect on staff, including occupational therapists, the people accessing services, and their families, so it’s really important to get them right.’
