Did you give your printed dissertation or thesis to our Library?

As our RCOT Library is now digital, we would like to offer the printed dissertations and theses back to their authors. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the print collection. 

Many of the printed dissertations and theses are not available online via our catalogue. Some may be available via the British Library EThOS service or the universities where the authors studied.

If you would like your printed dissertation or thesis returned, you can email our Library team. They will then post these to you. You have until Monday 22 August 2022 to get in touch with the team by emailing library@rcot.co.uk.

Using our digital Library, you can currently read over 200 online theses via our catalogue – and we’re regularly adding more.

FAQs

How will I get my dissertation/thesis back? 
We will post your printed dissertation and/or thesis to your chosen address, free of charge. 

How can I access dissertations and theses for my research/learning? 
If you’re a member, you can search for theses using our online catalogue – you’ll need to log into your website account first. 

I think I donated my dissertation/thesis – how can I check? 
Email our Library team at library@rcot.co.uk and they’ll be able to check. 

How can I suggest my thesis be added to the Library catalogue? 
Email our Library team at library@rcot.co.uk.

What will you do with the remaining dissertations and theses after Monday 22 August 2022? 
Unfortunately, we will not be able to return printed dissertations and theses after Monday 22 August 2022. We are looking for libraries and institutions who may be interested in them. Those not claimed will be confidentially shredded.

How do I add my thesis to the British Library EThOS service?
The British Library EThOS service “…aims to hold a record for all doctoral theses awarded by all UK universities (institutions). There are some gaps which we are gradually filling, but there is a record for at least 90% of all UK theses, some 500,000 records. EThOS also provides free, direct access to the full text of as many theses as possible.”

EThOS may not have a record of all the doctoral theses the RCOT library holds. The British Library EThOS service works directly with UK universities rather than with PhD authors, so we are encouraging authors to get in touch with the institution at which they studied with a view to having their thesis added. Once there is a record on the EThOS platform, if the author lets the RCOT library know, we can add a record and a link to the digitised thesis to our catalogue.
