EDB Insights: Occupational Rights – Book now
On Tuesday 15 March 2022 we’re welcoming Karen Whalley Hammell, Honorary Professor, Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy, at the University of British Columbia, to speak to us and the occupational therapy community.
This event is part of our EDB Insights series, where we’ve invited people to talk about the topics of equity, diversity and belonging, so we can all reflect and use the lessons learned in our practices.
Karen will be speaking about the ideology that the occupational therapy profession has around addressing systemic discrimination, oppression and injustices. She will be looking at how at the moment these are just that, an ideology, and the profession has not done enough to address these in reality.
‘This lecture seeks to highlight the ways in which occupational therapy promotes a particular ideological agenda that nourishes ableism, renders invisible the oppressions of racism, gender binarism, heteronormativity and patriarchy and obscures the structural inequities impacting people’s capabilities to be healthy and to engage in occupations they value’
We’re looking forward to hearing from Karen Whalley Hammell and would love for you to join us.
This event has now sold out. A recording will be available to members after the event.
If you’re like us and would like to plan ahead, see our other upcoming EDB Insights events.
