This month, three awareness events are taking place in the UK, which are central to our profession. We've focused some of our features to reflect these themes:
- LGBT+ History Month theme: #UnderTheScope, celebrating LGBT+ contributions to healthcare and addressing LGBTQ+ health inequalities. Dr. Trish Hafford-Letchfield discusses the new Skills for Care learning framework for LGBTQ+ support in later life.
- National Apprenticeship Week: University of Hertfordshire developing an occupational therapy apprenticeship tailored to local needs. The first cohort of 21 apprentices started the three-year programme in January 2021, soon to become the first OTs from the program.
- Eating Disorders Awareness Week (26 Feb–3 Mar 2024) highlighting ARFID (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder). Training Worker Aitch Nicol and Occupational Therapist Hazel Bryce share insights on a pilot support group's impact on individuals with ARFID at the South Yorkshire Eating Disorder Association.
