The Government in England has published its response to its recent consultation looking at mandatory vaccinations as a condition of employment in the health and social care settings in England.
On 2 February 2022 the Government announced that it would consult on the legal requirement for staff working in health and social care settings in England to be vaccinated against COVID. Our partners, UNISON, lobbied for the removal of the vaccine as a requirement for continued employment. We are pleased that the Government has now removed this requirement.
RCOT members (except those who are self-employed) are automatically members of UNISON and UNISON acts as the union on RCOT’s behalf.
Regulations revoking vaccination as a condition of deployment (VCOD) were made on Tuesday 1 March and will take effect on Tuesday 15 March. During this period the Government will not enforce the regulations and staff can continue working.
