No one can fail to be moved by the heart-breaking scenes taking place in Ukraine. Every day through the media we continue to see and hear the traumatic events taking place. We, at RCOT, stand firmly with the people of Ukraine and categorically condemn the invasion by Russia. War is never the solution, and we support the actions being taken to end it.
Understandably our members have been asking what they can do to help. We have been in contact with the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) and received a clear message that the best way to provide support is through co-ordinated responses via official organisations (see suggested links below). Initially, our members, who are keen to act, can respond to the emerging humanitarian crisis that is developing in Ukraine. This however is a long-term issue and we will be working closely with WFOT to organise support for the longer term. WFOT will be posting ways that members can get involved on their website next week.
Through our membership of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT), we will be offering assistance and support to the Ukrainian Society of Ergotherapists, as the situation becomes clearer.
What can we do now? In order to support communities in Ukraine, including occupational therapists, we are asking that if you can, please donate to any charity that is supporting Ukraine. It could be money, clothes or food. We know the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal will help pay for much-needed food, water, first aid, medicines, warm clothing and shelter for people who have lost so much.
You can donate to the British Red Cross appeal.
