The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) decision to increase their registration fee has now passed through both the UK and Scottish Parliament and will come into force from July 2021.
Commenting on the registration fee rise, RCOT Chief Executive, Steve Ford said:
“I’m hugely disappointed that the HCPC has taken the disastrous decision to push ahead with raising its membership fees. Across the UK occupational therapists, along with other allied health professionals have been on the front lines of the healthcare response to the pandemic. In hospitals and in the community, they have been working flat out to help people recover from COVID-19 and they should be rewarded, not charged more to enable them to do their jobs. There is already a shortage of allied health professionals, occupational therapists included, and this decision from the HCPC will do nothing to encourage people to train and join the profession. I strongly urge them to reconsider and call on them to reverse their decision.”
More information about the fee rise and how it will impact on occupational therapists can be found on the HCPC website.
