Kalimah Ibrahiim is an Associate Professor in Occupational Therapy and Professional Lead at Buckinghamshire New University (BNU). As a member of the Senior Leadership Team within the School of Health and Social Care Professions, her role includes leading and establishing the occupational therapy programmes.
Prior to this, Kalimah successfully established the BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy course at the University of East London, where she also served as Course Leader, Senior Lecturer, and Admissions Lead, with over a decade of working in various clinical positions, including the NHS (acute, community and mental health), social care, public health, prisons, quality improvement and private practice, as well as teaching and research. She obtained a Master's in Public Health and is currently a doctorate student in Public Health.
Kalimah's specialist areas of interest and research span a range of topics, including health policy and systems research, prisons, digital and health literacy, social transformation and community co-creation. The primary aim of her work is to address the needs and challenges faced by marginalised communities. In addition, she is particularly interested in exploring non-traditional and role-emerging student placements as a means of introducing novel approaches to education and workforce development. Her doctoral research focuses on digital literacy as a means to enhance the skills of young people who are not engaged in education, employment or training.
She was elected as Council member for England and Chair of the England board in 2021. She says: 'Thrilled to serve on the Council and the England board, shaping our profession and advocating for occupational therapy, enabling people to live fulfilling and meaningful lives.'
