Welcome to the April issue of OTnews. This month, we're showcasing some excellent work in the field to support the establishment of a new OT Veterans Network for members of the occupational therapy community working with veterans and current members of the armed forces.
OTs Joanne Lawson and Kathryn Guy talk about the development of a ‘one-stop’ hub to support veterans with their physical and mental health in the South West of England, before Nicola Tweed describes how a sensory modulation service is positively impacting the mental wellbeing of injured military personnel at DMRC Stanford Hall.
Christie Alkin, an OT researcher working for Combat Stress, also shares her involvement in evaluating the impact of an online group sensory modulation intervention on mental health outcomes for British military veterans.
Separately we hear from Hannah Spencer, who explains how RCOT is working to challenge the barriers to career development and progression experienced by people historically underrepresented in occupational therapy, and how and why a series of vodcasts have been produced that focus on hearing and sharing the career narratives of our diverse workforce.
We’ve also got reflections on the challenges of getting your work published as an early career researcher, with some good advice for anyone else in the same boat.
That's just a glimpse of what's in this issue. If you have anything to share about your own work or ideas, please email us at editorial@rcot.co.uk. You can also read our issues online or in print.
