Welcome to your May issue of OTnews. Our cover feature this month is from former inpatient Jerome Sewell, who once fitted into the category of ‘psychotic ex-offender in the mental health system’.
Convicted and sentenced to a five-year prison sentence, during his time in prison he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, sectioned under the Mental Health Act and hospitalised. On his release in 2019, Jerome worked hard to become a successful professional – but had to overcome several challenges along the way.
In other features this issue, hear about:
- Janet Thompson sharing how a 30-minute Wellbeing Window helps OT staff overcome the stress-related effects of working during the pandemic.
- Abi Fidler and her experience of working as a deaf person during the pandemic.
- Dr Sandie Woods describes how participating in a Three Minute Thesis competition helped develop her academic communication skills and how it can be a useful tool for all OTs and students preparing for presentations.
We hope you enjoy this month’s magazine, and as ever, if you would like to share your innovative service developments or examples of good practice in a future issue, then please get in touch at editorial@rcot.co.uk. As well as the printed copy, you can also view the magazine online.
