Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio

Welcome to a new way for you to record your CPD!

Do you find it challenging to stay on top of recording your continuing professional development (CPD) and making sure you meet the HCPC standards?

We’ve teamed up with CPDme to give you access to an online platform and app designed to make CPD recording easy and accessible. You can now record your CPD activities, reflections and evidence in one place, and on the go – all included with your RCOT membership!

Why you should use the CPD portfolio

  • It’s a place to capture your lifelong learning and development, no matter your role or career stage
  • It’s easy:
    • Pick up and put down your recording easily.
    • You can choose the reflection templates which suit you best. Use it as a single place to record your activities, learning, reflections and evidence.
    • Your progress is saved and a traffic light system indicates a percentage level of completion for each CPD diary entry you’ve made.
  • The new HCPC registration period and CPD recording cycle started on 1 November 2023 – start good CPD habits and record your CPD regularly.
  • Know you’re meeting the HCPC CPD standards – feel as prepared as possible for future CPD audits.

Your CPD portfolio helps you meet HCPC standards

Standard 1: Maintaining a list of CPD activities

Adding dated CPD entries and reflections creates a dated list and helps you to meet standard 1.

Standard 2: Demonstrate that your CPD is a mixture of learning activities relevant to your current or future practice

Every time you add a CPD entry, you’ll choose a CPD type that this fits within. So, at a glance, you’ll be able to see how many CPD activity types you’re carrying out, helping you to meet standard 2.

Standards 3 and 4: Seek to ensure that your CPD contributes to the quality of your practice and service delivery, and that your CPD benefits the people you work with

Recording CPD entries, reflections and uploading supporting evidence helps you to meet standards 3 and 4.

Standard 5: If you are selected for the HCPC audit, you’ll need to submit a CPD profile

  • Keeping all your CPD in one place will make this process much easier. You can:
    • export your dated list of CPD activities as an attachment
    • demonstrate you’re carrying out a mixture of learning
    • write your practice/ work summary and personal statement as you move through this two-year cycle
    • easy access to any evidence you’ve been keeping, allowing you to choose which bits of evidence you want to include as part of your profile.

Learn more about the CPD portfolio and how it will support you

The launch event for the CPD portfolio took place on Tuesday 9 January. There’s a recording available below. Due to some technical problems during the webinar, we’ve included a full demonstration of the CPD portfolio platform within the recording. We’ll also be updating the FAQs to answer questions raised during the session.

During the webinar, some questions were about CPD and audits. Explore the Q&As we have around the HCPC audit. If you can’t find the answer to your question, please get in touch prof.dev@rcot.co.uk

If you've got general questions about the CPD portfolio, take a look at our FAQs below. If you've got any further questions please contact prof.dev@rcot.co.uk

FAQs

What is a CPD portfolio and why do I need one?

It’s a way to capture your lifelong learning and CPD in one place, no matter your role or career stage. It’s easy to record reflections and evidence and it’s designed to support us to meet the HCPC CPD standards. We’ve teamed up with CPDme to deliver this new member benefit.

Can I backdate CPD activities? Can I edit entries I've already made?

Yes, you can backdate entries, as well as forward date any future planned CPD. You can also go back in to edit dates, change titles, and anything else you’ve recorded across diary entries, reflections and evidence. Your CPD entries and reflections will show in date order.

Does CPD portfolio use reflective templates?

Yes, when adding a reflection you can chose from a selection of reflection frameworks. The fields below then auto-populate with prompts specific to the reflection model you’ve chosen to use.

We also have CPD resources on the RCOT website including five minute reflection templates which you can use to support your CPD, and upload as evidence to your portfolio.

How do I access my CPD portfolio?

You can access it via your member portal, or download and log into the CPDme app. See detailed steps on how to do this in the answers below or see these slides.

Both the desktop and app versions are the same and fully synced, so you can you use both of these at any time, and when on the go.

This is available for all RCOT members, no matter your membership category. A change to your membership category will not affect your recorded CPD – this is safe and is linked to the email address you use. Your email address can be updated at any time.

How do I log on via the RCOT website?

  • Go to https://portal.rcot.co.uk/login
  • Once logged in, go to manage your account where you will find your member portal dashboard.
  • On the left hand side you will see a ‘CPD portfolio’ tab.
  • Click on the ‘Access my portfolio now’ button.

How do I log in via the app?

  • Search for the app 'CPD Portfolio Builder - CPDme'.
  • Download the free app and log in. You don’t need to select ‘sign up’.
  • Make sure you use the same email address that you use for RCOT membership when logging in.
  • The app won’t recognise your RCOT password. Instead, click on ‘forgotten password’. The app will then generate a one off secure log in which will not affect your RCOT log in details.

What if my log in email for CPDme and RCOT are different?

You can add more than one email address within the ‘profile’ tab of your CPD portfolio. Alternatively, you can email team@cpdme.com for your email address to be updated.

I got an error message when I logged in via the RCOT member portal, what should I do?

Clear your browser history, cache and cookies and try again. If this doesn’t fix the issue, please email prof.dev@rcot.co.uk

Do we get basic or premium access to CPDme?

You get access to premium membership.

Do I have to pay for this or is it free?

Access to CPDme is a member benefit included in your membership package. Your membership fee has not been increased and there is no additional charge to you.

What if I already have a CPDme account?

If you already use CPDme as an individual member and wish to move your account to the RCOT platform, email team@cpdme.com or call them on 01254 943159 and the team will help move your CPD portfolio to the RCOT platform.

I already have a CPDme account that I pay for, can I get a refund?

If you are both an existing CPDme subscriber and an RCOT member, there’s a couple of steps to take:

  1. Log into your RCOT member portal and click on ‘Access your CPD portfolio now!’ button (I’ve attached a short video so you can see how to do this). Once you’ve done this and providing you use the same email address for both RCOT and CPDme membership, your account will automatically transfer to our RCOT system, and you’ll see all previous entries made.
  2. Email team@cpdme.com about payment. Let them know you are an RCOT member and ask them to please cancel your subscription/ advise on payment already made. There is no additional cost to you because access to this is now included in your RCOT membership.

Will CPD from my paid for account be moved to my new RCOT CPD portfolio?

Yes – it’s all linked to your email address. If you use the same email address, and you’ve logged in via your RCOT portal, this will automatically transfer you over to the RCOT system. If you’ve been using different email addresses, team@cpdme.com will be able to support you with updating your preferred email address so you can view any previous CPD you’ve logged.

I don't have an RCOT membership anymore, can I still access my CPD portfolio?

When your RCOT membership comes to an end, you'll be given 30 days to export and download everything you’ve recorded. The data you record never gets deleted (unless requested), so if you need the information after the 30 days, CPDme will be able to send this to you.

If you later re-join as a member, all your CPD data remains safely stored and available to view because it is linked to your email address.

What should I do when I finish studying and can’t use my that email address anymore?

Your portfolio is a continuous record linked to your email address. You can update your email address at any time.
