Be part of an exciting world

Occupational therapists help people elevate their everyday life. And whether they focus on finding ingenious ways to help someone do what they love or carry out valuable occupational therapy research – we’re here to support them every step of the way.

RCOT is leading the way. Our values and strategy are driving the way we collaborate and form strong partnerships with members, political representatives, service providers, education and research organisations, among others. We’re focusing on how we can power breakthroughs for everyone – our members, the people they help, and society as a whole.

Join us, and you’ll be a loud and proud advocate and supporter of occupational therapy and RCOT. But more than this – as you help more people live better lives by achieving their individual breakthroughs, you’ll find your own life elevated in return.

Rewards and benefits of working at RCOT

Our people are important to us. It’s because of you that we’re able to be a loud and proud advocate and supporter of occupational therapy. That’s why we work hard to ensure that you’ll feel happy and supported in your role. We offer a variety of rewards and benefits including:

Annual leave

You get at least 25 days paid holiday a year when you start with us and that goes up after the first five years.

Generous pension

We know how important planning for the future is. Building up a good pension is something we want to help you achieve. We have a contributory pension scheme – with an employer contribution of 9% – which you can join on your first day.

Life cover scheme

It’s important that your loved ones have future financial security should something happen to you. As an employee, you will receive life cover of four times your salary.

Hybrid working

Our hybrid working model gives you the flexibility of a blend of home and office-based working. We’ve recently redesigned our offices to create a modern, inclusive and collaborative space.

Employee Assistance Programme

Our EAP gives you access to an independent, free, personal support service. It’s there for you, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to make both your work and home life easier. You’ll have access to things such as online counselling, life management support and more.

Supportive networks and inclusive team

We have several colleague networks to support colleagues and provide a space for discussion and reflection, as well as promote allyship. We currently have networks for our LGBTQIA+ and Black, Asian and diverse ethnic communities. This is just the start; we want to build on these and create more tailored supportive groups. For example, we now have additional colleague networks for disability, menopause and parenting.

Equity, diversity and belonging at RCOT

We’re committed to leading innovative change to promote equity and social justice and build a sense of belonging for colleagues, members and the populations we serve. Our ambition is to have a diverse workforce that is representative of the communities we serve. We don’t only embrace diversity, we celebrate it, nurture it and support our staff in realising their true potential.

We’re passionate about creating an environment free from discrimination and harassment where people can be their authentic self and recognise that each of us is unique. That’s why our definition of diversity goes beyond those defined in equality legislation and we will afford the same standards and principles to those with lived experiences.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are keen to see applications from people with lived experience of disability or long-term health conditions, from minoritised ethnic and LGBTQIA+ communities.

RCOT - Message to Colleagues - Why Brand Matters
Our brand matters

For RCOT, a strong brand means we can grow the understanding of occupational therapy, attract more people to the profession and help more people get the life-changing therapy they need.

So, a strong brand is especially essential if we’re going to realise the true potential of occupational therapy to increase wellbeing right across our society.

Our brand
Our values Our strategy

Join an organisation that’s going places

We’re on a journey to help people everywhere value the life-changing power of occupational therapy. And we have a five-year strategy that’s guiding our efforts to reach more people and create wider positive impacts.

It’s an exciting time to be here. We’re working with colleagues, volunteers, members and other organisations to help society realise that occupational therapy has a lot to offer. And we’re helping more people live better lives by achieving their individual breakthroughs.

Rise Up

We will rise up to be bold, progressive advocates and champions – raising our profile and voice so that more people understand the power of what occupational therapists do.

Open Up

We will open up to new opportunities and people – joining forces, forming alliances, and getting more people to see occupational therapy as the solution to their needs.

Lift Up

We will lift up every occupational therapist and support them to be the best they can be throughout their entire career – by offering them the best community, resources and tools that help them to succeed.

Build Up

We will build up our organisation and culture to be dynamic, high performing and values-led – using insights and data to inform and drive us to achieve our purpose.

Our values drive our decisions and actions

As we progress on our journey, we live by a set of values that describe how we work together; they drive us in our decisions and actions, as individuals and as a team, as we work to achieve our shared vision and purpose.

We Impact

We make meaningful differences with all our work.
We prioritise work that achieves our shared purpose and strategy.
We go above and beyond for the people who need us.

We Challenge

We find new and better ways to make things happen.
We are brave and bold in our ideas and actions.
We challenge ourselves, each other and the status quo.

We Elevate

We lift up and support others to be and do their best.
We are accessible and collaborative.
We are united and move forward together, even if we sometimes disagree.

We Respect

We value each other and celebrate our differences.
We are approachable, genuine, and trustworthy.
We listen to others and believe everyone's views should be heard.

What it’s like to work for RCOT

It’s a rewarding and collaborative place to work. We focus on the impact we deliver for our members and are committed to doing our best to achieve that. Our values drive how we make decisions and the way we work. To reach our ambitious goals, we’re improving and changing how we work to become a more forward-looking organisation – and that’s what makes it an exciting place to be.

Issy Savin de Larclause, Smart Working Partner

I've been at RCOT for over 9 years, in various roles. The culture is great – everyone's supportive, and you really feel heard. Being a Colleague Forum representative lets me collaborate with other colleagues to make RCOT a better and more inclusive place to work. The organisation's ambitious initiatives show the impact we're making, making it an exciting place to work

Carolyn Hay
Carolyn Hay, Head of Education

I’m a career-long member and came to work for RCOT as I wanted to make a difference and proactively support everyone involved in educating our future workforce. I’ve been here two years and love it! Great people to work with, and we have a new strategy and values that align so well with my approach.

At RCOT I enjoy working with people who appreciate me and acknowledge my input. My colleagues make me feel that my contribution is meaningful and what we do makes a difference for others.

Suhailah Mohamed
Suhailah Mohamed, Head of Practice and Workforce

Working at RCOT has been nothing short of a privilege. Having been a member of the organisation since I was a student, I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to influence the socio-political landscape that allows the profession to thrive and best serve those that need OT services.
