Next spring, the UK government will publish a 10 Year Health Plan in England.
Central to its strategy to fix the health and care system are three shifts:
- moving more care from hospitals to communities
- making better use of technology in health and care
- focussing on preventing sickness, not just treating it.
Join this huge conversation
Start by completing their survey – which is open to everyone.
The Department for Health and Social Care has launched ‘Change NHS' to help build a health service fit for the future. They're looking to have the biggest ever conversation about the future of the NHS.
Members of the public, as well as NHS staff and health experts, are invited to share their experiences, views and ideas for fixing the NHS via the online platform, change.nhs.uk.
The portal will be live until the start of next year, and available via the NHS App.
If you're currently working in health and care you can share your experiences via your own portal on the Change NHS site.
You can go to the portal to:
- give your views on the NHS and health and care
- tell the government what you feel is working well and what needs improving
- share your experiences
- post your ideas for improving health and care in the future
Realising our workforce strategy
Earlier this year we published our first ever Workforce Strategy.
By 2035 we will have an occupational therapy workforce that is:
- confident and skilled in championing inclusion and advocating for occupational justice
- based primarily within communities
- positioned to focus on prevention and early interventions
- putting occupations at the forefront of their practice.
It's great to see this alignment coming together.
During OT Week 2024, we'll reach another milestone by publishing our Workforce Startegy action plan – England. This will explain what steps we'll take to deliver our plan over the next three years in England to help realise our vision.
This follows the launch of our Workforce Startegy action plan – Wales over the summer. Action Plans for Northern Ireland and Scotland will be published in 2025.
The power of OT – transforming health and social care
As part of our Workforce Startegy action plan – England, we'll help members raise the profile of occupational therapy amongst leaders across the health and social care professions and government.
The 10 Year Health Plan should facilitate an expanded occupational therapy workforce positioned to have maximum impact in improving people’s health and quality of life, as set out in our Workforce Strategy. This is an opportunity to highlight the key role occupational therapy can play to solve many of the UK's health and care needs.
