Occupational Therapy Week 2024

The power of OT – transforming health and social care

'The power of occupational therapy – transforming health and social care' is the title of the campaign that starts on 4 November, the first day of OT Week 2024, and will continue for the next 12 months.

Connected to our Workforce Strategy, together we will create a better understanding of occupational therapy, its role in health and social care and how the occupational therapy workforce needs to be positioned in the future.

We’re going to build on the 2023 campaign where we created a better understanding of occupations, in the context of occupational therapy, what they are and why they matter.

We’ll help you to tell the story of occupational therapy, and support you to be spokespeople and changemakers locally, nationally and globally on social media.

What can you do to raise the profile of OT?

As an occupational therapist, there are many ways you can raise the profile of occupational therapy. On the profile-raising page, you’ll find guidance and tools to help you:

  1. prepare a story
  2. act local
  3. be a media spokesperson
  4. influence decision-makers
  5. get social

Direct people you are talking with to our About OT pages.

What resources are there?

To help you raise the profile of OT, there are two sets of resources:

  1. Power of OT campaign: providing you with a narrative and resources to raise the profile of occupational therapy. These are not marked as OT Week so they can be used at any time.
  2. OT Week: to promote OT Week itself and any local activities you have planned.

Use the drop-down links below to access OT Week and campaign resources.

Power of OT campaign resources

You can use these resources to build an understanding of the value of occupational therapy, its role in health and social care and where it needs to be positioned to have maximum impact.  Where possible, adapt these resources to make them relevant to you and the people you are talking with.

  • Narrative: text you can use to talk and write about occupations including social media posts, a 30 second introduction, conversation prompts, copy newsletters, facts, quotes and story examples.
  • Presentation: to use in meetings and events.
  • Poster: to display where you work or learn.
  • Graphics: to use on social media, in newsletters and elsewhere.
  • Animation: to use in presentations and social media and on webpages.
  • Practice pack: practice brief, evidence search and reading list.

You can download the full resource packs or the individual materials.

Do you have any questions?

You will find the answer to some questions here. If your question isn't covered, please contact marketing@rcot.co.uk.

Why are there separate OT Week and campaign resources?

There are two separate sets of resources so that you can use the campaign resources both during OT Week and beyond.

How can I get involved?

There are many ways as an occupational therapist you can raise the profile of occupational therapy. On the profile-raising page, you’ll find guidance and tools to help you.

Why does OT Week take place?

We want to share what occupational therapy is all about and why it’s important.  Occupational therapy is often overshadowed by other ‘easier-to-understand’ professions, and so until everyone understands the life-changing power of occupational therapy, OT Week is here to stay.

Why are there only digital resources?

All the campaign resources are digital and can be downloaded from this page. Over the last few years, we’ve moved the OT Week campaign online as part of our commitment to sustainability and are focusing on delivering impact. By taking the campaign online, not only has it meant we’re more sustainable, but we’ve also made a bigger measurable impact. This means that there are no printed resources or merchandise.

Why aren't all the resources in Welsh?

We’ve created most of the promotional materials in Welsh as well as English. Resources that are specifically for members are in English.

How do I link the email banner to a website?

To link the banner to find out more, you can add a hyperlink to https://www.rcot.co.uk/about-occupational-therapy/what-is-occupational-therapy when you add the banner to your email signature. We’ve removed the ‘find out more’ text from the latest resources so you don’t have to link.

How to add image with link in an Outlook signature? (extendoffice.com)
